National Diploma in Civil Engineering (NDCE)

The National Diploma in Civil Engineering (NDCE) is a two-year full-time programme offered at Uganda Technical Colleges — Bushenyi, Elgon, Kichwamba, Kyema, and Lira. It is structured into four semesters and two recess terms dedicated to industrial training. Each semester runs for 17 weeks (15 for instruction and 2 for examinations), while recess terms last 10 weeks.


Programme Objectives

The NDCE aims to:

  • Equip learners with technical, theoretical, and leadership skills for the construction industry.
  • Train students in design, construction, maintenance, and supervision of civil structures.
  • Encourage entrepreneurship, environmental conservation, and safety awareness.
  • Prepare graduates for further education and research in civil and structural engineering.

  • Engineering Mathematics, Construction Technology, and Surveying
  • Engineering Drawing and Quantity Surveying

Duration and Career Prospects

The programme spans two academic years, leading to the award of a National Diploma in Civil Engineering. Graduates can work as technicians, supervisors, or site managers in government and private sectors, or progress to Higher National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree programmes in related fields
